The 3 S's of Leadership

Oftentimes, as a leader, one is faced with the problem of dealing with different egos, whether in a formal office setting, as a part of a sports team, or even when leading a movement. Tensions will rise and beliefs will eventually clash. That is, unless you, as the leader, assert yourself and show that you mean business and only have everyone’s best interest in mind. How do you go about doing it? By simplifying things.

Think like a Scientist

You’re new, you’re young, and your methods may seem new to your peers, maybe even stupid for those who really hate you. Naturally, you have to help them see things your way. This is where your experience comes into play. Think back to your high school science class. Remember the scientific method? This could very well be advantageous for you if you’ve managed to incorporate it in your way of managing things:

Do your research - this includes gathering infos not just from printed sources but also from experts in the field.

Identify the problem (s) – pinpoint problems one at a time. Don’t try to solve multiple problems with just one solution.

State a hypothesis – this is just an idea of how to solve your problem. Use it as a basis while doing…

Experimentation – although sometimes in business, swift actions are needed, it’s alwas better to base your decision on proven facts.

Reaching a conclusion – if you have all bases covered, then it’s time to make your decision.

If your means of getting things done is 100 percent reliable, back it up by stating facts and showing past and successful results. Keep in mind that not everyone is easily convinced by pure glitter and glamour.

Think like a salesman

Consider your techniques as your product. Find your vantage point. Concentrate on the positive aspects of your “merchandise” and make it easy for your contemporaries to understand. Give them an overview, step-by-step, of how you’re going to put your plan into motion. Then once you have them in the palm of your hand, go for the kill and finish the transaction.

Grooming (Open Wide)

It’s not rocket science, but dental hygiene is much more than just brushing with a steel wool, flossing with a cowboy’s lasso, and popping a Tic-Tac. This is one of the most underrated part of your daily routine and we think it’s about time you put in a little more thought and care for your chompers—especially if you get into a situation where you bit off more than you can chew.

Stick it out

Tongue scraping is one detail that most people overlook. Bad breath caused by food particles, and other gunk can be significantly reduced even with just regular tongue cleaning. Studies show that the back portion of the tongue has a more unpleasant smell than the front of the tongue. So when you scrape your tongue with special tools you can find at any department store, don’t be afraid to get a little gag or two when you start cleaning your licker.

Lace it up

Dentists suggest that you floss your teeth regularly but it is unknown to most that it actually causes a lot of gum problems. When done improperly, the floss could cause a tooth’s slow death. The mistake that most people do is they concentrate on just getting the small food particles out from in-between the teeth, when actually you should be scraping across the tooth to remove build-up of plaque. Snip about 20 centimeters worth of floss and guide it through between the teeth, then curve the floss around the tooth and carefully slide the floss up to the gumline but don’t’ let the floss go under it.

Just a little care can make a lot of difference. Unless you want to end up looking like a grandpappy constantly looking for his teeth by the time you’re 35, then we suggest that you would give a little care for those pearly whites you keep on flashing.
